Northwest Louisiana Master Gardeners

Digging bulbsDuring the year, NWLAMGs are asked to come to homes and dig bulbs for the annual bulb sale. Many of these bulbs are heirloom bulbs and are becoming harder to find.
Donating bulbsNWLAMGs look at their gardens each spring to see what bulbs are blooming and either mark them or prepare them to be brought to the fall bulb sale. The master gardeners are basically, propagating the bulbs in their own gardens to share with the community in the fall.

Purchasing bulbsEach year at the bulb sale, the community expects to be able to purchase specific bulbs that they can plant in the fall for a beautiful spring garden. They expect to find many of the bulbs that NWLAMG have sold over the years. Because some are not considered heirloom bulbs and can not be found locally, the bulb committee orders the bulbs.
Propagating bulbsAfter moving to the Red River Research Station, the NWLAMGs decided the best way to be sure to have heirloom bulbs in the future, was to "grow our own." Old homesteads and gardens have been the source of these heirloom bulbs but by getting propagation beds going at the RRRS, the committee could be sure that there would be bulbs available for the annual bulb sale.

Propagation beds...from the beginning
The Parkway High School Beta Club assisted with the building of the propagation beds.
After the beds were built, NWLAMG filled the beds and then began planting bulbs. It was not long before the bulbs began growing.
The bulb propagation beds are really getting full and blooming beautifully in the middle of April 2023
